Background


Though the sport of Basketball is becoming increasingly become popular, its development has lagged behind. Areas such player fundamental/skills development and sports administration need a lot of attention in order to elevate the sport to acceptable international standards.

Vision


The VISION of the A2zB.A is, to contribute to the development of Basketball in Zambia. Starting from grass-roots to elite and professional levels. At the same time continue support and compliment the efforts and activities of The A2z Foundation.

Mission


To promote the wholesome development of young people through sports and mental awareness. We aspire to help young athletes achieve their health, fitness and performance goals by providing encouragement, education and accountability within an enjoyable and safe environment.
The aim is to have healthy minds and healthy bodies.

Core coaches/Staff


Coach Simms:
Coach Simms has played professional basketball in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. He is the current Zambia National Team captain and has 2016. Before becoming part of The A2z Foundation, Coach Simms coached a few local High Schools in a Lusaka and also coached the Lusaka Select Provincial team. He currently coaches at the American International School in Lusaka and is one of the few coaches that has won 2 ISSEA championships.

Coach Alan:
Coach Alan has experience coaching high school basketball and currently serves as an assistant coach for one of the top ladies team in the league. Coach Alan is also a counsellor and is passionate about the wholesome development of young athletes on and off the field of play.

Coach Leah:
Apart from coordinating and facilitating the academy’s activities, Coach Leah is well vested in fitness and nutrition and is a fitness instructor at one of the leading gyms in Lusaka.

Coach Mwape:
Serves as consultant to the Zambia Basketball Association and Coaches one of the top teams in the men’s division. He’s passionate about the growth of the sport and is also the founder of the Youth Basketball League that has successfully created a youth league for players from Under12 to Under19, helping young athletes transition to the professional league.

Services/Activities




  1. Development Camp: a multiday event dedicated to teaching players the fundamentals of the game in a safe and enjoyable way. Dealing with all skill levels.


  2. One on one coaching- offered in 60-90 minute session. Athletes enroll into programs lasting 4 to 12 weeks and typically meet with a coach 2-3 times per week.


  3. School holiday program: 4week Program designed to keep young athletes active during the school holidays.


  4. Show case camps (1-2day events) for more competitive and advanced athletes seeking to take their talents to the next level i.e. professional or collegiate.
